Describe the bug (actual behavior)

Summary

The Kafka UI Helm chart does not currently provide an option to specify custom annotations for the ConfigMap created by the chart.

Use Case

We use HashiCorp Vault for managing application configuration and secrets in our Kubernetes environment.

Some of our Vault integration workflows require Kubernetes annotations to be present on the ConfigMap created by the Kafka UI Helm chart. These annotations are used by our Vault-related tooling to identify and process the ConfigMap.

Currently, there is no option in the Helm chart values.yaml to configure custom annotations for this ConfigMap.

As a workaround, we have to modify the generated ConfigMap outside of Helm or maintain additional Kubernetes resources/patches. This makes the deployment more complicated and means that the required metadata is not managed together with the Kafka UI Helm release.

Expected behavior

It would be useful to have an option in the Helm chart values to specify arbitrary annotations for the ConfigMap created by Kafka UI.

For example:

configMap:
  annotations:
    <vault-annotation>: "<value>"

The resulting ConfigMap would contain the specified annotations:

apiVersion: v1
kind: ConfigMap
metadata:
  name: kafka-ui
  annotations:
    <vault-annotation>: "<value>"

The annotations should be preserved when the Helm release is upgraded.

Additional context

Support for arbitrary annotations would make it possible to integrate the Kafka UI Helm chart with HashiCorp Vault and other Kubernetes controllers that rely on resource annotations, without requiring additional manifests or custom patches.

Steps to reproduce

This is a feature request rather than a reproducible bug.

The Helm chart currently does not provide an option to configure custom annotations for the generated ConfigMap. Therefore, there are no specific reproduction steps.

    AI Summary

The Kafka UI Helm chart lacks support for custom annotations on the ConfigMap it generates, which is needed for HashiCorp Vault integration. The proposed solution is to add a configMap.annotations field in values.yaml to allow users to specify arbitrary annotations, ensuring they persist during Helm upgrades. This would streamline deployments by managing all metadata within the Helm release.
